Penny Mayes, following forays into prop making for television advertising, joined Trestle Theatre and over the next twenty years played a major role in establishing it as one of Britain's leading national and international touring theatre companies. She went on to raise £2million and convert a derelict 100 year old chapel in St Albans into the Trestle Arts Base.
Penny left Trestle in May 2002 and set up her freelance business, Dramatic Solutions. Over the years, a wide variety of jobs include fundraising for artsdepot, a £15 million arts centre in North London, where she orchestrated a private reception at 10 Downing Street hosted by Cherie Booth and the opening of the centre by HRH Prince Edward. She created a live and film community touring scheme for Bedfordshire, set up and ran a major festival of Central and Eastern European Arts and created club events for disabled and non disabled young people throughout Hertfordshire.
She created a feasibility study for Graeae Theatre Company towards the first, fully accessible production and training base for disabled artists which achieved a major building lottery award. As Project Manager for Free Word, the first home for literature and free expression in the old Guardian Newsroom in Farringdon Road, Penny managed the relocation of eight organisations and the creation of Free Word itself.
Penny has served on a number of advisory panels including six years on the Arts Council drama panel and three years as Chair of Projects. She creates courses and regularly teaches for a number of organisations to include the MA Arts Admin course at Goldsmith University.
